Stay

Sleep here too

A guest house and a caravan park, both on the same premises as the diner, both run by the same family.

Two ways to do it

A roof, or bring your own

Two quite different things on the same premises, so it is worth being clear which is which.

Indoors

The Lazy Whale

Three bedrooms, one bathroom, sleeps six. Its own kitchen, laundry and parking, and the dogs are welcome. Rated 4.48 out of 5 across 21 reviews on Airbnb.

Self-catering, if you want to be

A fully equipped kitchen and a laundry. Or walk fifty metres and let us cook — that is rather the point of having the diner on the premises.

Worth knowing

The biggest seal colony in the country is up the coast

Somewhere north of 350,000 of them — the largest land-based colony in South Africa. It is genuinely one of the sights of this coast.

You cannot simply drive or walk to it. It sits inside the restricted mining ground, which is precisely why it has been left alone long enough to get that big. It is reached on an approved tour, booked through the tourism office in the village — ask us and we will point you at the right person.

Outdoors

Kleinzee Caravan Park

A small, quiet site on the edge of the village — between 11 and 25 pitches depending on how everyone parks — open all year round.

Caravan pitches

Pitch up

Power, ablutions with warm water, and a braai. Dogs are allowed and so are campfires, which is rarer than it should be.

Or do not cook at all

The restaurant is through the gate. Braai when you feel like it, and walk over when you do not.
